Remembering former student, Jack Merritt

The lead up to Christmas is a time of mixed emotions for many of us who remember with great pride and fondness, our former student Jack Merritt, killed tragically two years ago during a terror attack at Fishmonger’s Hall in London, while working to help prisoners.

University colleagues join us in remembering Jack and fellow Cambridge student, Saskia Jones: Remembering the tragedy at Fishmongers’ Hall | University of Cambridge. The sentiments expressed by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen J Toope, will be familiar to all who knew them: “two bright young people whose legacy must continue to push us all to strive for a world that is more humane and just.” Indeed, we are very proud to offer a scholarship in Jack’s memory which supports students from Widening Participation backgrounds to pursue an MPhil in Criminology, the course Jack completed in 2017 before going to coordinate the Learning Together programme, supporting prisoner rehabilitation.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jack and Saskia, especially at this time of year.
