Jazz, Tango and Shakespeare in the Pavilion

On Saturdjazz1ay night the College welcoIMG_0058med the wider community to a very informal evening of Jazz, Tango, and Shakespeare. The evening commenced with a lively performance by the Corellis, fronted by Neil Mercer who is a Life Fellow of the College. The band played a wide range of styles and delighted and entertained the audience with their relaxed and fun approach to the music. It was also the debut performance for Nick Barraclough’s new bass, which sounded fantastic.
After refreshments during the interval, the second half got off to an energetic start as Martin Kemp led Organised Chaos in a variety of tangos by Astor Piazolla. This was followed by some excellent Gypsy Swing thanks to stunning contributions by Iain Mann and Chris Diamond. The evening concluded with Iain singing three Shakespeare songs arranged by John Harle. Martin Kemp’s informative introductions helped the audience appreciate this wide range of styles and approaches.
