Dr Phebe Mann awarded Honorary Fellowship by Bradford College

Alumna Dr Phebe Mann has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Bradford College for her contribution to civil engineering and construction law. Dr Mann matriculated at Hughes in 1998, where she achieved her BA in Computer Science. Now a Senior Lecturer in highway and transportation, construction and planning law at the University of East London, Dr Mann previously worked for Westminster City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council, researching and designing highway bridges.

Her accomplishments are significant. As a Chartered Civil Engineer, Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Builder, Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a European Engineer she is currently the only woman in the UK to hold five professional engineering qualifications concurrently. Dr Mann is passionate about encouraging women to enter the sector and was one of WISE’s (formerly the UK Resource Centre) Women of Outstanding Achievement in 2011.

Accepting the Honorary Fellowship, Phebe said: “I am deeply humbled and greatly honoured to be conferred an Honorary Fellowship acknowledging my eminence in construction law, engineering, and education and my support of other women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) industries. I am passionate about my career in construction; and delighted to see more and more young people, especially women, contemplate careers in the industry. It is such a rewarding industry to work in, and young people who enter the sector will not be disappointed. I am extremely grateful to the College for the Fellowship and look forward to continuing my support to students who have to overcome barriers to enter the profession.”
