Hughes Hall welcomes U.S. Chapter to the global Climate Governance Initiative

The Hughes Hall Centre for Climate Engagement (CCE) is a major element of our research translation and impact initiative, The Bridge. The CCE facilitates the sharing of knowledge and best practice between academics and business, in particular boards and non-executive directors to help them mitigate the effects of and adapt to climate change. CCE is the secretariat for the Climate Governance Initiative in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and hosts the UK Chapter, Chapter Zero.

The Climate Governance Initiative (CGI) supports the growth of groups of board directors around the world to form networks, known as Chapters. The CGI has established a global network of national and regional chapters in 13 countries to date and continues to expand to promote the adoption of the Principles for Effective Climate Governance, as published by the World Economic Forum. The UK chapter of the CGI, Chapter Zero is building a community of non-executive directors who can position the climate challenge on their boards. With more than 1,000 members it hosts expert-led events, workshops and webinars to inform, exchange ideas, share experiences and facilitate co-operation; as well as providing toolkits and resources that actively support conversations on climate risk, opportunity and business strategy.

The US National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), representing more than 21,000 board members, has joined the Climate Governance Initiative as the US host chapter at a time when the impacts of climate-related risks and opportunities are increasingly affecting American business and the global economy.

Emily Farnworth, Co-Director of the Centre for Climate Engagement said: ‘It is hugely exciting to see the development of a US Chapter and we are thrilled that the National Association of Corporate Directors has chosen to take this forward. The US private sector has a critical role in delivering a net-zero economy.’
