Tango and More are a group of Cambridge musicians formed to play Astor Piazzolla’s wonderful tangos. As a special treat, they will be joined by the baritone Charbel Mattar, an opera soloist at Covent Garden. With a programme of unrivalled melodies, this promises to be an evening of pure delight, packed with music which is passionate, exciting and very danceable.
Piazzolla stands at a crossroads between tango, Bach and Jazz. A scaled down ensemble gives Tango and More a chance to display a more flexible, jazz-oriented style, extending to other related areas, including the music of Gerry Mulligan, Jobim, Charlie Haden, and Chick Corea.
